Patti’s Banga

Earlier tonight, my friend asked me to accompany her to Patti Smith’s private playback of her new album ‘Banga’. It was totally unexpected and was a little nice surprise.

Patti was there and she was very warm and awesome!!

She talked about the album, the songs and the inspirations. ‘Banga’, the title of the album and also name of a song was taken from Pontius Pilate’s dog in the classic Russian novel, ‘The Master and Margarita’ by Mikhail Bulgakov. Banga is a symbol of dedication and loyalty.

Other tracks include ‘This Is The Girl’, a tribute to Amy Winehouse’, ‘Fuhi-san’, a prayer to mount Fuji to spread its love and protection to the people of Japan after the 2011 tsunami, ‘Nine’, a birthday song to Johnny Depp, and many more.

Patti expressed her creative process which involves studying certain interesting subjects and then let them leads her to the songs. She likes the audiences to discover each song’s beauty on their own and let the songs speak for themselves.

I thought the music was wonderful, it gives me a sense nurturing energy lingering long after I left the studio.

The album will be out on June 5th. Here is the single ‘April Fool’.
